The ranking: the 10 best coffeeshops in Amsterdam

If you have come to Amsterdam for the coffeeshops in particular, here is the guide for you. We sat, smoked and experienced every one of the 107 best coffeeshops in Amsterdam ourselves, so that we could give you an honest account of the atmosphere, the music and the crowd in each one.

You will find photographs, a short description and, of course, a map showing how to reach each coffeeshop. If you are reading on your phone and you are in Amsterdam, the map will show you which coffeeshops are nearest to you.

Puffit has a "filter" button that shows only the coffeeshops closest to where you are. And pressing "directions" opens your navigation app and guides you step by step to the coffeeshop you want. (Puffit asks permission for your location in order to show results relevant to where you are.)

A guide to recommended Amsterdam coffeeshops – July 2026

We have visited Amsterdam many times, and this time we decided to build a site where you can find the best of the coffeeshops we recommend warmly.

Amsterdam has a law forbidding coffeeshops within 200 metres of a school to sell drugs (cannabis, hash and so on). Many coffeeshops in those areas therefore changed what they do and became smoking-only coffeeshops, where no sales are allowed.

As a result there are a great many coffeeshops in Amsterdam today, but only some of them also sell.

On our site you will find only the most recommended coffeeshops, the ones where you can *buy*, *smoke* happily *and* eat well. Come and enjoy the authentic, perfect Amsterdam coffeeshop experience!

We have surveyed the ground for you – now it is your turn to come and see the best of what Amsterdam has to offer!

Our site is always up to date, and we are always looking for new and interesting coffeeshops. If there is a coffeeshop you would recommend, please tell us about it.

First time in Amsterdam?

A local guide will take you around the coffeeshops and the red light district, and explain how to buy and what is allowed.
