The Spirit

The Spirit is an old-school neighbourhood coffeeshop on Westerstraat, the Jordaan's broad market street. It has been serving locals since the 1980s and still feels more like a local hangout than a tourist stop, though visitors mix in easily.

Pinball and pool

What sets it apart is the space. There's a bar area at the front and a big back room with sofas, a pool table and a row of pinball machines, plus an arcade game or two. It's a place to settle in for the afternoon rather than grab and go. Weekdays are quieter; it fills up later in the day.

Long-time regulars remember The Spirit for its hash, and the menu still covers both hash and a straightforward weed list, including a house Spirit Haze. Open daily from 10:00 to 01:00.
