The Rookies

The Rookies was opened in 1992 by a group of young founders, hence the name, and the family behind it has been in Amsterdam for five generations. It is on Korte Leidsedwarsstraat, just off Leidseplein and a few steps from the Vondelpark, Paradiso and Melkweg.

The renovated space is properly big: 85 seats indoors plus a terrace. There is air conditioning and good ventilation, so even non-smokers are comfortable, along with free Wi-Fi and a good sound system. It is wheelchair accessible, and staff come to your table and are praised again and again.

The menu covers a wide range of weed and hash, including soft Moroccan and Asian hash. If you avoid tobacco, there are pre-rolls made with a herbal mix instead. The coffee is good, too.
