The Old Church

The Old Church is one of the long-standing names on the Amsterdam scene. It started in 1983 by the Oude Kerk in the Red Light District, and in 2012 the coffeeshop moved to Amstel 8, on the river close to Rembrandtplein. The original spot on Oudekerksplein carries on as a bar and lounge.

The coffeeshop is small but nicely designed, with a window looking out over the Amstel and music that isn't always quiet. Staff have a reputation for being friendly and welcoming, and the menu pairs Californian jar strains with hash.

A tip: buy here, then walk fifteen minutes to The Old Church bar, which has a terrace, if you'd like a beer or a cocktail. Open daily from 09:00 to 01:00.
